About Chernobyl Children Life Line Perth Link The Chernobyl Children Life Line charity was set up in 1992 by Victor Mizzi to help children suffering from the after effects of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster and the resulting economic situation in Belarus. It is a national charity now comprising of over 130 local branches or “links” scattered throughout the U.K. from Cornwall to The Orkney Islands. Perth Link was formed in 1996 by a group of friends in the village of Bankfoot near Perth and has since expanded to cover the City of Perth and surrounding area. We have been bringing groups of children on a regular basis to the Perth area where they live with volunteer host families for a four week period. To date over 100 children have benefited from health breaks organised through Perth Link. The previous chairperson and one of the founder members of the Perth Link is Marjorie McFarlane. Following an article in The Scottish Daily Record on Sept 6th 2000 highlighting the work of Chernobyl Children Life Line and the Perth Link, there was an enormous response from the public throughout Scotland wanting to become involved in the work of the charity. Victor Mizzi appointed Marjorie as Scottish Coordinator for the Charity and subsequently Marjorie and her team of helpers from Perth Link have been successful in assisting the formation of several new Links throughout Scotland. Taking over from Marjorie as chairperson of the Perth link is Rona Archibald, a host parent for several years who brings a wealth of experience to the link and who will be pleased to answer any queries. Perth Link is continually looking for new host families, support families, help with fund raising activities, Russian speakers or anyone who is willing to help with the work of the charity. If you are interested in becoming involved please contact us below or for an informal chat please contact Rona Archibald on 01738 840995. |
